What lyophilization is
Lyophilization (freeze-drying) removes water from a solution under vacuum, leaving a dry solid that is far more stable than the same molecule in solution. For peptides, this matters because water is the main driver of chemical degradation.
Why it protects peptide integrity
In solution, peptides degrade through hydrolysis, oxidation, and aggregation. Removing water slows all three. A lyophilized peptide can be stored for extended periods with minimal degradation, which is why research materials are supplied dry rather than in liquid form.
What arrives in the vial
A lyophilized vial typically contains a solid — either a compact cake or a loose powder. The exact appearance depends on the formulation and the freeze-drying process. Residual moisture is reported on the Certificate of Analysis and should be low.
